My dearest and angelic Evilyn,
The deed is done. I shall be making my way home by train soon enough.
It was no small task. The Observatory was not haunted, as the local simpletons has suggested, but it was most assuredly infested by hideous alien creatures. Whatever thier agenda, I was quite sure it was malevolent in nature. The beings warranted further study, to be sure, but a fair damsel was in her most dire hour and in sore need of rescue.
Fortunately, I was at hand.
Had her fate been left to the poor sods I had the misfortune of traveling with, her death was assured. I brought my keen intellect and formidable weaponry to bear, however, and the damsel and the day was saved. The alien creatures no doubt posed a threat not only to her, but to New York, even to the entire Realm. I managed to dispatch the threat they posed as well as the dark intelligence behind them, single-handedly staving off Armageddon. God save the Queen, may she reign forever.
Such is my fate. To stand against the darkness, alone, with naught by my formidable mind, prodigious skills and sheer will. I do not regret this, I relish it.
I shall return home with your favorite delicacy, my dove – I am assured that it is the finest Turkish Delight to be found this side of the pond.
Ever and eternally yours,
Craven Nathaniel Stirge
