Dear Liara,

Snakemen, ancient tribes, and now dinosaurs. I knew I felt out of my element when I came to this jungle, but this is a whole new level. All we wanted to do was retrieve an artifact from a temple, but then that beast appeared. It was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It was ferocious, terrifying, and the damn thing was hard to kill. We almost took it down after Craven gave it a major wound, but it ran off before we could give the final blow. It was gone and that was all that mattered as we proceeded to our destination.

Upon arrival, we saw a corpse of another giant beast that we presumed was killed by Alice, Craven’s sister. When we entered I took point so we could avoid setting off any traps. Further in we found an altar room littered with dead bodies. Past that was another path that, in the end, took me to a room and a death trap all because I dropped my guard. We ended up backtracking to the altar and discovered that it was hiding a secret passage. I felt like a fool for not checking that thing, but I didn’t think much of it at the time.

As we kept going, all we saw were more bodies and destroyed lab equipment. At this point I figured either she’s good with a gun or there’s a third party involved. I never did enjoy third parties waltzing into my assignments, they always made things more complicated. That was when we finally got to the top of the temple and found Alice, wounded and exhausted. After a brief conversation between her and Craven, that’s when my feeling became a reality as Alice was shot in the head. The culprit being someone I didn’t think I’d see again: The Mad Hatter a.k.a. Jack the Ripper.

Our reunion would have to be postponed as the basin began collapsing in on itself and we had to make a mad dash back to where we came in from. Thanks to a sprained ankle from earlier I was having a hard time keeping up with the others. Thankfully one of my associates, Jakob, carried me all the way back. We all barely made it out of the basin as the land that was once there became nothing.

I know this all sounds insane, trust me I’m having a hard time believing it myself, but you just have to trust me. There seems to be some powerful forces about and that concerns me. Also don’t worry, I haven’t stopped searching for Zane. If anything, what happened to Alice only makes me want to find him faster. I’ll keep you posted on anything new involving him or something of importance. Keep this information to yourself and take care.
